132 - Shendi market by FO Travel on Flickr.

Photographer’s note: Close to Meroe, the small town of Shendi sits on the banks of the Nile. Shendi was a prosperous town in the 18th century, and drove most of its wealth from the slave trade. About 5,000 slaves a year passed through the markets, most aged under 25.
Now, Shendi is a quiet little town with a friendly market.
